This final week of work has been focusing on the rock handle mugs. I think these have perfectly illustrated the mix between ergonomics and interactive play. I wanted to create pieces that fit well in the hand but also draw in the user. I photographed all my “experimental” fired mugs and asked people around the studio what they thought of them, how they thought they fit and looked in the hand so i could get a general idea of how others saw the work ive been creating.
I carried on throwing and whipped up eight cylinders on wednesday to work on and finalise this idea of rock handle mugs. I wanted to look at rushing the work and seeing how an even more unrefined technique would come out. I recorded myself adding the handles and ensured the clay was still wet and not leather dry before adding the handles so that it wouldn’t matter as much that these handles were slip and scored on. I won’t fire them anyway because i dont want to risk wasting clay which would have a high chance of cracking in the firing process.
I also had to carry on looking at work from the first half of the unit, i glazed mugs using glaze I had made with Anna and organsied my work so I knew for certain I am prepared as possible for the assessments.
I still had a couple cylinders left over which were leather dry and needed to be worked on! I chose to create more of the “inside out” handle mugs. These drew in the most attention from the studio and I loved their interative quality. Other than that I have been photographing work and creating my presentation which is hard work!
